A Funny Statistic
A new study of 68,664 people from Forrester Research found that only 6% of Americans reported reading blogs.
The study, widely mentioned in the main stream media, also found that only 2% of Americans reported using RSS.
However, what was not made clear from the study results is whether the participants were actually asked if they knew what a blogs or RSS was, a problem that has been discovered previously, where many people read blogs or use RSS services (including My Yahoo!) without realizing the name of the technology they were viewing or using.
Why is this funny? Well, it seems to me that 90% (yes, i’m exaggerating this number, but it must be more than 6%) of Americans have blogs now (many having multiple blogs), so 6% reading means that either:
- A. This survey is really innacurate or
- B. No one reads your crappy blog.
C: They just look at the pictures :)
Thanks for the giggle…and sadly, I can’t guess whether A or B is the correct answer.
I wonder what the figures would be for this year (2008) :)
