Charter Really Sucks
I’m really fed up with Charter Communications. I’ve heard the horror stories of Comcast and even my experiences with Mediacom haven’t been that great, but Charter really gets under my skin. The past few days my 5mbit internet connection has been going really really slow. Painfully slow. I’ve run several speed tests on several different computers (a Windows Vista box, an Ubuntu box and my MacBook) and each time the speed registers at less than 1mbit. So, I’m paying over $40 per month for service that is only delivering less than 20% of what I’m supposed to be receiving? (Not to mention the fact that I’ve never gotten my whole 5mbit connection and most times it’s as if i pay for 5mbit but they only deliver 3). That doesn’t sound to fair to me. I’ve checked all the cable connections in the house to see if there might be a loose cable somewhere and haven’t found anything. So what do I do? If it doesn’t clear up on it’s own over the next couple days I will have to call and deal with an hour of a recorded voice telling me to power-cycle my modem, restart my computer, disconnect my router, stuff I’ve already done, then I’ll have to deal with the technician who will have me do the exact same things the recorded voice told me to do before they finally accept that it’s their problem and schedule an appointment to come look at it. Of course, I won’t be expecting to see an actual technician for at least 3 weeks after I set up the appointment, because that’s how Charter operates. It’s no surprise they’ve gotten a failing grade and thousands of complaints from the Better Business Bureau. So, you may be asking, why don’t I switch? The answer is simple; the Sherman Anti-Trust Act apparently doesn’t protect my city from giving a monopoly to Charter. There are no other cable companies or internet service providers (unless I want dial-up). The only high-speed net access is through Charter. I can’t wait for the day that AT&T comes into St. Peters and starts offering video and internet services. That will be a great day in the lives of many Charter Communications customers.
I stopped feeding the cable pig years ago! Satellite and DSL rock… and the employees are so much more skilled and helpful than our cable people. They actually want your business and treat you accordingly.
My Charter internet has been SUPERSLOW lately too. This has been the case at school as well. Maybe it is all of charter.
Yeah my charter has been slow as well.
Im in the southern metro area in MN
Just ran across this site on a google search for slow charter to see if anybody else was having this problem
It seems to be slow in intervals however; mainly in the afternoon.
We ran into problems with Charter broadband about a year ago that ultimately I found the solution to. Their “engineers” didn’t realize that Linksys cable modems were not compatible with Charter’s 5 meg service. I found this answer by starting a service request with Linksys. I provided Charter the answer to this problem and have since been rewarded by Charter by, after cancelling the service having Charter continuing to bill me for my modem, WHICH I OWN!! I now have to prove to Charter (with credit card or cash invoice) that I own the modem or they will continue to bill me for a rental modem. I spoke to Cele (a supervisor) about this issue (which was “closed” in October of 2007) according to Zina (another supervisor AND their real names I’m sure). Cele, much like the majority of Charter’s customer “service” branch was accusational, indifferent and uncooperative.
I swear in this public forum that I will NEVER, NEVER, NEVER again have a Charter residential product in my house EVER AGAIN!!
I just came across this sight because I was looking for answeres as to why…you guessed it, my charter internet is so damn slow, or not even there half the time. I too spoke with thier tech support, who said they were aware of the issue and working on it. Yeah right! I asked if they could give me a time frame, a month, a year, anything, they just said no they couldnt. What a bunch of B.S.!!!!
Charter is a company on its last leg, I work for them they dont even have the employees trust or respect , Many of the employees purchased thousands of dollors in charter stock opening day trusting the company only to lose it with crooked dealings with out employees trust or respect charter you have lost your battle …..
Once the employees dont care its over Paul Allen has no clue its just a rich mans game bill gates was the smart one not Paul everything he touches he runs into the ground
Over the past year I have only twice had the same charge on my bill. They nickle and dime EVERYTHING. When I ask them why… They respond “well costs go up”. Well then why are my other bills all the same and the service usually gets better with increasing costs. Charter’s seems to be goint down the tubes. I don’t mind the product… Its ok. They are just WAY overpriced compared to other options, of which I am limited. Futher more, the customer service is the absolute worst in ANY business. They are rude and confrontational. I though that as a business the object was to get the customers and keep them. Not charter…
