Southwest Missouri State University

Missouri State University!

It passed the Senate today, and the House is expected to pass it without any trouble, and the President of MU said he no longer was against the name change and asked the politicians opposing the bill to stand down. It looks like on March 17 we will be officially announcing and changing the name. I wonder how long it will take to change everything over? I wonder how long it took to change everything from SMSC to SMSU? Anyways, just wanted to announce this!!

Oh, if you’re not from southwest Missouri, the university in Springfield, Missouri, Southwest Missouri State University, has been fighting for about 17 years to drop the regional part of the name to simply be MSU, and today it finally went through the Senate. This is exciting news for those who attend the school, and for southwest Missouri in general!

I went to Central for my practicum, like I do every Tuesday/Thursday, and I was talking to my co-op teacher. His third period class is creating schedules for next school year for the next few days, that puts him behind. Therefore, I don’t have to teach next Thursday. What is also good news is that the week after that, he has to go to a conference, so I don’t have to teach my first lesson until March 15th, and I no longer have to do it over the Cold War. Instead, it will be about the Early Civil Rights period. This is very good news, as I hate the Cold War just as much as the students do, but love Civil Rights.

What is with this weather? 74 Degrees?!?! That’s the last time I get my weather from a Groundhog. “6 more weeks of winter” my ass. This is great Wiffle Ball weather. Do I possibly hear something about the ICMSWWBL starting back up? I sure hope so.

Happy Single Peoples Awareness Day.

A man was fired from a Miller distributer when his picture wound up in the paper. He was drinking a Bud Light.

RACINE, Wis. — The battle of the beers took a new twist in Racine this week when a Miller beer distributor fired an employee whose picture was in the paper. He was drinking a Bud Light. Competition between Miller Brewing and Budweiser has never been hotter, according to affiliate station WISN 12 News in Milwaukee. Anheuser-Busch may have three times the market share of Miller, but Miller is the hometown brew. “This is what happens when you drink a great beer,” former C.J.W. employee Isac Aguero said. As quoted from Chuck Palahniuk in Stranger than Fiction

If you haven’t already noticed, all my books are about a lonely person looking for some way to connect with other people.

In a way, that is the opposite of the American Dream: to get so rich you can rise above the rabble, all those people on the freeway or, worse, the bus. No, the dream is a big house, off alone somewhere. A penthouse, like Howard Hughes. Or a mountaintop castle, like William Randolph Hearst. Some lovely isolated nest were you can invite only the rabble you like. An environment you can control, free from conflict and pain. Where you rule.

Whether it’s a ranch in Montana or a basement apartment with ten thousand DVDs and high-speed Internet access, it never fails. We get there, and we’re alone. And we’re lonely.

After we’re miserable enough– like the narrator in his Fight Club condo, or the narrator isolated by her own beatiful face in Invisible Monsters– we destroy our lovely nest and force ourselves back into the larger world.
